Review written by John
IIt seems that all I
have read or heard about Autoweb.com has been negative. I am not here to
tell you that their services exceed those of any other auto location
service, but they can assist in a helpful way.
When I got to the site back a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that I really
did like the layout of the site. I found that the colors were appealing and
the arrangement they chose was satisfactory. The pages loaded very fast and
I experienced no lag at anytime. I found exactly what I was searching for
when I wanted it. Keep in mind that I have not tried another service yet, so
I am only reviewing my findings as being unbiased.
My reasons for seeking information was in relation to my Crown Vic that I
own presently. I have been wanting a new one for sometime now. The one I
currently own is a 1999 model and I am really wanting a 2002. They are so
awesome. Talk about your fat ride! Enough of that... on to the website.
The very first thing that I did when I arrived at Autoweb.com was click on
"new autos". That immediately took me to the page where I chose
Ford in a drop down menu. Once you do that, it takes you to the page that
asks for your zip code. This finds the nearest dealers in your area that
will be able to assist you in finding what you want.
I arrived at the exact page I needed. I clicked on Crown Vic. That landed me
on the page that gave me all the specs and base invoice/msrp price ranges.
It gave me a run down about the car that was condensed somewhat but still
enough to help me figure out whether or not I wanted to continue.
I received an e-mail within the hour from our local Ford, Lincoln dealership.
I was impressed at the response time. I have since talked with them and have
decided to wait until next year to buy the 2002. They suggested that it
would save me major bucks to wait until they start to liquidate this years
models. I find that very thoughtful and helpful. I am going to wait.
What about the rest of the site? Autoweb.com offers various ideas/services
for insuring your vehicle and ways to finance.
They offer you a service where you can advertise your auto in the
classifieds. You can also use their Kelley Blue Book page to find out what
your auto is worth on todays market.
One thing that really troubles me about Autoweb.com and the main reason for
my less than great rating was the fact that their category for maintaining
your vehicle. I don't really know what to think about this but every link
you click on takes you to a page that says the merchant is no longer
participating in the affiliate program. That is on the parts and accessories
section. As far as I know, that was the only part that was like that. Bad
enough though. You would think they would eliminate that category. It
definitely makes them look bad. So that took away points toward my attitude
for them.
I used their recall section. That page took quite sometime to load for my
DSL connection. Once I arrived there, I was able to search recalls on my
vehicles and everything appeared to be working just fine. No complaints on
this part.
Autoweb.com has a section called, "IPIXTM 360° INTERIOR VIEW
LIST". Nifty pictures of the interiors of new cars. Thought the have a
decent list to show, I was unable to find my Crown Vic. I was disappointed
and think that they could do much to improve this part.
There are reviews offered to the consumer on vehicles for both on road and
the actual car performance. I looked that over briefly and found it to be
mediocre at best. Much improvement needed there as well. But we can't all be
Epinions!
My overall impression was not great but not as bad as many others. I am
recommending them simply because they serve a basic function. They can
locate a vehicle for you and even though they may not rank as well as other
online auto services do these days, they still operate on a level that is
helpful to the consumer. I can't say they will continue to do so, for it
does appear they are going down hill, but for now they can help the average
person looking for average information on a new or used automobile. At the
very least, you can use them to find out how much your auto is worth and put
it up for sale in the classified ads if you so desire.
It's a sad thing to see so many .com companies going belly up. Let's hope
this one improves and stays in the competition! It is not all that bad.
Still helpful on a medium level.
