written by Lilly. I
thought I would tell you about my actual shopping experience with
Eluxury.com. and also give you my recommendations. It's a nice place for a
woman on a budget to browse, but it seems to be a perfect E-shop for a man
who might have forgotten Valentine's Day, an anniversary or other special
occasion and need something special delivered in a HURRY.
I was the high bidder on an E- gift certificate from Eluxury.com on Ebay
in January.
I figured what the heck, $35 for a $50 merchandise credit, this will be
fun.
It was more work than it was fun, and I LOVE to shop. The problem was that
there are maybe 5 products on the site which can even be bought for $50 (
including shipping).
All of the things I loved were a couple of zeros off, LOL.
After spending HOURS in category after beautiful but terribly expensive
category, I finally found what I consider to be the best buy on
Eluxury.com. It can also be found on Eluxury's sister site, Sephora.com,
with greater ease and with more color choices.
I bought Poole's makeup kit in Prudence. It has some basic but true to
color eye shadows, a couple of blushes and a lip gloss all packaged in a
nifty shiny chrome case with a couple of small brushes.
Looks really good in my purse. Never mind that I am a Lancome' and Chanel
wearer, I had finally found something within my $50 gift cert. limit... I
thought.
Many of the items in the lower price range were sold out ( Calvin Klein
cosmetics metallic sticks for eyes and cheeks, for example, some good
makeup brushes and several bath products.) Sephora and Eluxury are the
only retailers of Calvin Klein makeup items now, in case you have a
preference for the brand.
I thought the shipping for my item was really high ( over $10), which
meant I did have to use the plastic anyway.
On the plus side,I noticed that the site is one of the few which still had
the very popular Louis Vuitton pochette (small pouch purse) at the regular
retail of $165. I have two of them and paid over $200 each.
Since Eluxury is owned by LVMH ( Louis Vuitton- Moet Hennessey) it is a
very good place to buy the harder to find Louis Vuitton items.
Also, the gift choices and editor's picks categories were sensibly priced
and were luxury items which I would ordinarily have bought, had I not been
oddly determined to use only the E-certificate.
It appeared that there are professional staffers making informed decisions
in marketing on the site, and that is a good sign. The merchandise has a
very rapid turnover, so if you find that perfect something, buy it when
you see it. Chances are it will be "out of stock" when you
revisit, especially if it was a featured gift or Editor's pick item.
In fact, their flashy displays change almost daily. There is a very rapid
turnover of the cutting edge designs.
My experience was mixed. Maybe if I had KNOWN beforehand that my
selections would be so limited and that the lower price point items would
be out of stock, I wouldn't have had high expectations.
I had no problem with delivery. The makeup kit arrived per Fed Ex ( their
preferred shipping method) in 3 days. I could have chosen overnight
delivery, but I didn't need this option.
My little techno makeup kit arrived in a pretty two toned silver box with
a purple French wired ribbon, and could have been presented as a gift
right out of the cardboard shipper, although I had not checked "gift
wrap" as an option. There was a form enclosed for returns, and a
postage due upon receipt prepared label for the package. Few companies go
that far to help a customer with a return or exchange.
I think this is an excellent site for men to buy something for that
special woman when time is of the utmost essence.
I didn't see anything on the entire site that I wouldn't be pleased to
receive as a gift or give a man in their men's departments.
Review
written by Claire. This
LVMH owned e-commerce website packs in some of fashion's biggest names:
Louis Vuitton, Donna Karan / DKNY, Bvlgari, Ferragamo, La Perla...etc. The
site is also the only place online that you can buy Louis Vuitton
products. eLuxury.com is a beautifully designed site, with cutting edge
fashion and accessories and it features gorgeous and ultra-chic models.
The products are laid out nicely on the screen. If there are multiple
color choices, you can click on the color swatches to see what the item
looks like in different colors. I like this feature a lot as there are
times when I think a red bag looks great in concept but actually doesn't
look so hot in reality. eLuxury.com also features some of its products in
a 3D presentation mode. If you have the required plug-in (or download it),
you can see the item rotate infront of your eyes. I like this feature
because it's neat, but I didn't find it particularly useful in helping me
decide whether I want the item or not.
The site is broken down into 5 broad categories: Women, Men, Gourmet,
Beauty, and Home. From there on, the section is further broken down into
more detailed categories: Women / Sweaters, for example. If you can't find
what you're looking for, you can always type a few keywords into the
search window; a word of caution: type in general terms like sweater or
pants; not specifics like aviation pants or something like that. A search
feature is good , but I have not found this feature to be very useful
mainly because the selections are quite limited on eLuxury. Searching by
brands is a much better option...if that's what you're looking for.
Although eLuxury.com has many designer brands, I find that its selections
lack depth. I believe that this is mainly due to eLuxury.com wanting to
only feature the latest and trendiest styles. I have been looking for a
Louis Vuitton wallet to match my pocketbook, and so far I have not been
able to find anything remotely interesting to me. I am going to have to go
to the boutique to check out the whole collection. I find that their lack
of selection is their biggest problem. It's nice to be able to see the
whole line of wallets, not just 2 or 3 in each types of leather.
I purchased a pair of pillows from eLuxury.com and though the color was a
little bit off (possibly due to the color settings on my monitor), that
was not a big problem. The pillows, however, smelled really bad so I had
to return them. If I had shopped in a real world store, I never would have
picked up those pillows because they smelled like B.O. In another
occasion, I bought a pair of the Louis Vuitton haircubes. They came nicely
wrapped and are of the same high quality product that LV produces.
Most of the items on eLuxury.com are priced the same as those in the brick
and mortar stores but occasionally, you can find things cheaper in the
stores...especially when there is a sale. For example, I found an
identical DKNY sweater in Bloomingdales on sale for 25% less.
There are several options, but shipping isn't cheap. I have been able to
find promotional coupons that waived the shipping charge if I buy at least
$150.00. The package arrived on time and if you need to return anything,
there is a prepaid label that you can use. Just pack the stuff back into
the box, affix the label and send it to the postoffice...you need to call
the return department to get a return authorization. You can't view
shipment information online, which means you need to call customer service
to get that detail.
Overall, I find eLuxury.com to be a great place to "window shop"
online. It carries an interesting selection of products, but often times
they are either too weird or expensive for me.
