With
our Compaq computer being a total lemon my husband and I were desperate
for a new computer, but were short on the extra cash. The only credit
account we have is with Office Max, but our local store doesn't carry
computers. Our only hope was to try the Office Max web site and I was
very impressed with them.
The site was easy to use and the product descriptions were well detailed.
They have great selection on a variety of office products, although they
only have two models of HP computers to choose from. Our safety in
ordering online was guaranteed which was very important to us since we
were ordering an expensive item. We were even promised free shipping
when spending over $50. This was a big plus since we were ordering a
computer. We also got a quick $25 discount just for being first time
customers to the site. The prices were reasonable and with the discount
and free shipping we feel we got a very good deal on a new computer.
Not only that, but the free shipping on the new computer was 1 day
shipping. The order was promised to arrive the very next day and it came
right on time. The folks who brought it were quick and friendly. We were
very happy and impressed with the product and the service. I would
definately recommend shopping at Office Max.com

The people behind
OfficeMax's website don't know anything about online ordering or item
delivery. I would recommend that no one purchase from the OfficeMax
website.
I attempted to purchase (my first time from OfficeMax online although I
have and continue to make purchases every week from a myriad of online
retailers of all sizes.) a computer hardware/software bundle which would
be a great deal after rebate.
From the start: their checkout procedure is unnecessarily different from
any I have ever seen. You will be asked to enter your password far too
many times and when you don't fill something in correctly, you are left
with an error on the page message with no direction as to what the
computer didn't like. (BTW: it was a dash in the phone number).
I continued through the order anyway. The next day I checked to see if
my items shipped and found them back ordered and due to ship out in two
weeks. Fine, I can wait but I need to e-mail customer service to ask
them why they don't have the rebate form on the web. The e-mail me a
copy and I notice in small print that the rebate must be post marked and
sent in with the package UPC by a date that is PRIOR to my order ship
date. I write them back again via e-mail and am told they will try to
rush out my order. They didn't so I call customer service a week later.
He informs me that the extended the rebate by two weeks. GREAT! They can
surely get my order to me in a month's time!
Fast forward to this weekend, and I have still only received 2 of the 6
required items and all e-mail inquiries over the past week have gone
without a response. I call to ask status of my order and the operator
tries to give me the tracking number of the first 2 items I already
received. I explain that I have that delivery and need the other 4 items
and would like to know when I will get them. She is rude and put out by
having to talk to me and attempts to get rid of me by giving me the
number of their shipper, RPS. I told her that I pay them to take their
product and deliver it to my door and that they are responsible for
contacting the shipper and getting back to me. I ask her to have someone
contact me with when the balance of my order will arrive or where to
send back the items. No one calls me back. I e-mail again - no one
responds.
In my opinion they have a horrible IT and shipping department (FYI: this
is usually reflective of the management of these areas, and no I never
have worked there). Customer service is unable to tell you where your
product is. The OfficeMax website shows all your items on the order as
DELIVERED as soon as the ship the product! I am in agreement with the
other reviewer who stated customer service is unhelpful and very rude.

In the past I have
always done my home office shopping at Staples. Up until two weeks ago
there was a Staples store that I walked by on my way home from work.
They have closed now and my printer needed a replacement color ink jet
so I had to decide what I wanted to do about shopping for my home office
needs.
I thought about going to a different Staples store but they were all
quite a bit out of my way. I thought about the Staples online store but
they aren't signed up with Ebates. However, Office Max is signed up with
Ebates and since I enjoy getting a few cents back for the money I spend,
I decided to give them a try. (I had shopped at an Office Max store once
before and was perfectly satisfied with the quality of the merchandise
so I wasn't worried about that.)
Having decided to give Office Max a try, I went and had a look at their
web site. The home page gives you two ways to find the merchandise you
want. There is a listing of different sections on the left side of the
page. If you click on a section (say pens and pencils) you go to a
subsection page that breaks down by things like pencils, mechanical
pencils, ball point pens, rollerball pens, fountain pens, etc. Once you
find the sub section you are interested in you can click on it and find
the particular brand of pen or pencil you are interested in.
The other way to find the things you want is by typing in what you want
under search. I found this most helpful as I was looking for an ink jet
cartridge and they are not all interchangable. For my cartridge, I typed
in ink jet cartridge, was prompted for the manufacturer and model of
printer and received the information for the black and the color ink
jets. From there I hit the order button.
Once I had my color cartridge I went on to the rest of the supplies on
my list. I found the site easy to work with and quick to respond to my
input.
Shipping with Office Max Online is free if you spend more than $50 on an
order so I did not have to pay for shipping (yes, I bought an extra pack
of post-it notes but as I will use them I figured it was worth it).
Delivery is next day - except that I ordered over the holiday weekend
and that meant I didn't receive my shipment until Tuesday instead of
Monday (they did let me know this during the checkout process).
Check out consisted of filling in my name, address and credit card
information and took only a few minutes.
I received my shipment yesterday. It had everything I ordered and was
well packed so that nothing broke or leaked all over everything else.
I don't spend a lot of money on office supplies. I keep a running list
when things start to get low so by the time I run out, I have the new
item in my house. While I won't be using this every week (or even every
month) I will be a repeat customer. They have what I want and need and
get it to me quickly. For me that is a good deal. Click
